May Naim

Age 24

May Naim was murdered while attending the Nova festival, near Kibbutz Re'im. Having fled when the terror attack began on Oct 7, she was found hugging her childhood friend Lotan Abir, both lifeless, in a bomb shelter near Kibbutz Be'eri.

She was the granddaughter of Shlomo Scharf, a well-known Israeli soccer commentator and former coach and player. From Gan Haim, May worked as a waitress and bartender following service in the IDF. She served in an elite intelligence unit known as 'Dovdvan', in a closed base. She worked around the clock to provide the best intelligence to the fighters. During her military service, she worked day and night, and was the glue of the department. She loved to travel, and had visited South America.

Referencing a photo of May finishing her military service, her mother, Anat Sharaf-Naim commented, "It shows something of the playful spirit, playfulness, and charm that she had. May was a girl with a huge smile that everyone loved. Her friends in the unit took a picture of her and this is a picture that brings out the happy spirit that was inherent in her.”
