Edan Alexander

Age 20 when abducted

Edan Alexander, a 19-year-old member of the Golani Brigade's 51st Battalion, found himself stationed near the Gaza Strip on the fateful morning of October 7. Tragically, he was taken captive by Hamas terrorists who launched a devastating attack that resulted in casualties, assaults, and kidnappings.
Edan's life journey reflects his strong connection to both Israel and the United States. Born in Tel Aviv, he spent part of his upbringing in Tenafly, New Jersey. After graduating from high school in 2022, Edan made the decision to join the Golani Brigade as a lone soldier, exemplifying his dedication to serving in the Israel Defense Forces.
On the morning of October 7, while Edan was stationed near the Gaza Strip, he had a conversation with his mother, Yael Alexander, who happened to be visiting Israel at the time. Their exchange occurred just after 6:30 a.m., as rockets began to fall in the area. During their conversation, Edan assured his mother of his safety. However, shortly after 7 a.m., all communication with him abruptly ceased.
The agonizing uncertainty surrounding Edan's well-being persisted for a week until the family received the devastating news that he had been taken hostage and transported to Gaza. Edan’s is the oldest of three children, and as he turned 20 in late December while still in captivity his parents issues a statement saying "We are proud of his selflessness, courage and loyalty, and we miss his laugh and sense of humor, which brighten every room. He deserves to be celebrating his birthday with his little brother and sister. Instead, he is being held captive in the dark."
